Deer jumps off NJ overpass, crashes through windshield of moving car: cops

A deer jumped from an overpass and slammed through the windshield of a car traveling on a New Jersey highway, causing the driver to lose control and crash Wednesday morning, according to police.

The shocking ordeal unfolded on Route 21 around 8 a.m. and left the deer dead and driver of a 2016 Jeep Compass hospitalized with minor injuries, WABC reported.

The doe leaped off a Route 3 overpass, landing on the lap of the Jeep driver, Clifton police said, according to the Bergen Record.

The driver, 45, then reportedly crashed into a BMW and highway barriers.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had anything quite like this,” Clifton police public information officer Detective Lt. Robert Bracken told the Record, though he cautioned deer “are everywhere” in the city.

The body of the deer was lying at the foot of the driver’s seat with a gaping hole through the windshield, according to a photo of the scene.
